Part

“Part” is an interactive pencil, to use as a tool for gaming with friends! The course “From Idea To Design” was my very first course at TU/e, learning me about the structure of a design process. This project aimed to design an educational game, with the characteristics The game of “Part” goes beyond digital drawing games on phones or tablets. Instead, use the world as your canvas!

This course was the very first project of my Bachelor’s, which learned me about design processes and decision-making especially. As a group, we managed to to keep track of our process, yet ideating a wide variety of design concepts. Learning from existing games, concepts explored opportunities to facilitate a game which went beyond “traditional” phone/tablet games. Moreover, the game aims to provide a learning platform to improve drawing/sketching skills. With multiple rounds of feedback, and testing the use of the “magic pencil”, the final design of Part was created. The pencil tracks your drawing and sends this to the other players, who have to guess your creation. We designed an additional app for the game, where user can track their development of learning how to draw/sketch. Achieving higher levels unlocks new colors and brush textures. The production of the various prototypes introduced me to the TU/e workshop, where I learned the basics of working with wood and plasters. Lastly, I learned to edit the video which will be a useful means of communication for future projects.
