Virtual Empathy

What is the influence of VR on empathy and awareness compared to a conventional game experience?

This was the research question for this project, for which the impact of a VR simulation on creating empathy for dementia was analysed. This game was created with Unity Simulation, where users experienced a storyline about dementia including memory loss, confusion about performed actions and a feeling of being left out of a conversation.

The research project was learnful about the new approach of design, where the design (unity game experience) was used for the research. The research question was composed based on the often missing understanding and empathy of dementia by younger generations, which causes a distance within close relationships. I learned about testing the different game methods as a way to answer the research, especially giving more depth about user insights by the emotional and ethical considerations about dementia.

I enjoyed computing the Unity simulation, I discovered many new functions of this program and was able to create dementia scenarios based on paper research. I am sure this Technology & Realization tool will help future projects to create VR (or other) simulations using Unity.
